Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Non stop fun
What a ride of a movie. I went in expecting an enjoyable action movie and this definitely surpassed my expectations. I loved this movie. If you like action/summer movies, just go and watch it on the big screen. It is escapist cinema at its best. The only reason I'm giving it 9 stars instead of 10 is because I feel the movie could have been shorter by about 10 mins. Love him or hate him, but you can't ignore Tom Cruise. He brings out the 80's or 90's stars presence back to cinemas. Buy popcorn, leave your brain at home, just watch the movie for pure entertainment. It delivers what it promises. Highly recommend this movie.
Soul (2020)
So deep. So wonderful.
What a beautiful movie. It's been a really long time I took time to write a review. But for this, I just knew I had to . Going through a tough phase mentally, this movie definitely had me in tears in the best way possible. This movie makes you want to appreciate life. Sometimes we just don't need purpose, we just have to let life be. This might rank among my favourite animated movies ( Wall-e, Up , Toy story series) . Just watch the movie without any expectations. Watch it with your loved ones and it will transcend you to a different place. If someone is feeling sad, Watch this movie, it's going to make you cry and feel good. I needed this .
J'ai perdu mon corps (2019)
Some will love it, some will hate it
What a movie. What beautiful animation. What an extraordinary soundtrack. It's not for everyone. But , if it is for you, you will treasure this. Don't miss this masterpiece.
BoJack Horseman (2014)
Never expected this!!
I can't express how thought provoking and introspective this show is. Have patience as Season 1 is the weakest one. From there onwards, it's just uphill. Definitely one of the best shows of all time.
It Follows (2014)
Fun movie!!
I rarely watch horror movies as I find them boring and clichéd. We thought of going for the newly released Unfriended. But somehow I felt I would watch this instead. And boy, am I glad I chose this? This is not the typical run-of-the-mill horror movie . The best thing about the movie is its background score and the way it it was shot using wide angled lenses which makes it look expansive and visually stunning. Also, there is a bit of dark humour which I personally love. The performances by the cast were terrific for a horror movie and also full marks for the execution of the movie. The premise sounds very cheesy and B-Grade'ish' but the movie was very well directed. Overall, this was a fun movie and I had a blast watching it. ( Don't watch if you don't like slow movies or enjoy watching gory horror movies)
O Kadhal Kanmani (2015)
A celebration of love!!
Thank you Mani Ratnam for this very timely return to form. OK Kanmani( Such a nice title) is a beautiful love story about the modern age relationships. The dialogues and the settings do bring back flashes of Alaipayuthey and Aaytha Ezhuthu. This isn't a perfect movie. There were some scenes that were cringe worthy(The Loopie App song/moment) . But despite these minor flaws, this movie is a triumph. A celebration. Performances by the cast were terrific . Dulquer is a capable leading man(despite his limited acting range). Nithya Menon was terrific and frighteningly real. But it's Prakash Raj and Leela Samson who steals the show as the older couple . The film moves to a different when they are in the frame. Overall, a beautiful movie that will appeal to the classes.
