Nobody's Children (1940)
Edith Fellows delivers once more, and Billy Lee helps!
Edith Fellows, mostly forgotten today, was in her time, for Columbia Pictures a very talented and often used actress. While she was no Shirley Temple-nor did she try to be, she could handle a wider range of roles-this is film shows just that. It was made during the time that she was also appearing in the Five Little Peppers Series at Columbia. While she portrays a 13 year old, Miss Fellows was actually 17 when this film was released. Story is one of faith, and devotion between two siblings hoping to be adopted. Billy Lee, plays her younger brother, and together they handle their roles well. See it.
I'm All Right Jack (1959)
Fantastic comedy!
Years ago, an independent tv station in the D. C. area-Channel 50, seemed to have an issue getting material to air, back in the 1980's, then all of sudden, the small tv channel suddenly from 9pm into the we hours of the morning began showing some great British films from the 1930's through the 50's. This is where i became acquainted with the Boulting Brothers and several other wonderful British filmmakers. I have since, made it a hobby to see as many of these wonderful films-comedies especially. However, as i watched different ones here and there, i went totally bonkers when i was able to see "Im Alright Jack". This film is a great comedy, and the reason i was glad to be able to finally see it was i had long ago seen Private's Progress-the ensemble cast makes both films the gems they are. Ian Carmichael, Peter Sellers, Terry Thomas, and John Messiuer especially make both films such classics.
