The Furies (2019)
Two Stars For The Idea and the scary music.
The idiotic other reviewers have made regarding the acting, storyline, originality and quality have had me almost howling with laughter.
This is a terrible film, with horrendous acting, cheesy dialogue, ludicrous plot developments and basically bad writing.
It could have been so good...but frankly I just couldn't wait for it to end, at one point considering switching the film off to watch Baby's Day Out for more believable performances. The ending is lazy and pathetic, totally unbelievable and makes zero sense whosoever, in fact it actually contradicts a major element in the film.
It's up to you of course, but I'd recommend skipping this and watching either 'The Hunger Games' or 'Battle Royale', instead.
A Million Little Pieces (2018)
A Message of Hope
Firstly, I haven't read the book and couldn't care less about all the supposed "fabrications" because - let's face it - no good story is ever quite true.
Secondly, I loved the film.
Ignore the snooty attitude of some reviewers, this film carried a message:
Don't give up hope...learn and heal.
It was a good watch (if not great), the acting was superb, and the storyline unwound itself perfectly. There were some desperately heart-breaking moments and equally challenging scenes but the main feeling I came away with after watching it was...just don't give up.
Doineann (2021)
Great little thriller, if slightly unbelievable at times.
Happy to write the first 'user review' for this film and it's a positive one. Just watched it and enjoyed it very much. Whilst some of the scenes and actions of the characters were a little far-fetched at times, it doesn't detract too much from the overall film. Decent performances, a good storyline and I enjoyed the mix of languages used within the film. My only real, minor complaint was the ending felt a little rushed and I thought it could've used a further twist. Watch it and see what I mean but a respectable 7/10 from me. 👍🏻
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Sally Deserves Better Than This...
Hardly any merit for this atrocity...I've awarded two stars for the very few moments of suspense (forget moments of horror or discomfort - there aren't any) and the presence of Moe Dunford and Alice Krige...the only saving graces I could find in this shlock.
A terrible entry into the long list of disappointing sequels and reimaginings thrown out since the (brilliant) original classic horror...none of the characters are interesting, the storyline is weak and simply served as a vehicle to get to the nasty parts, the nasty parts are silly and unbelievable and halfway through I wanted to turn it off because I was so bored...I found it to be a real insult to the pure dread and creative terror that the first film brought. The final ten minutes were particularly cringeworthy, with social commentary totally out of place in this film and then made worse with...well, remember 'Halloween 5'? Exactly...
The late, great Marilyn Burns surely would've been disappointed...again. Sally certainly is deserving of better...it's like the Mona Lisa - repainted by a 3 year-old.
Vinyan (2008)
So boring and stressful that I had to take two Rennie...
Badly developed plot, a bit pretentious, characters that were hard to sympathise with from any angle (despite some excellent acting) the pacing was excruciating and the ending was ridiculous and totally unbelievable.
Two great actors wasted on a very poor film.
Here Comes Hell (2019)
Know what I'm tired of? People forcing themselves to 'like' films like this in order to look smarter than everyone else...this film was moronic.
100% on RT?! I'd like to know who held the gun to the head of the reviewing chimpanzee. The acting is diabolical and not even good in a 'so bad it's good way' (a la Evil Dead), the plot is stupid and the 1930's style just does not work at all.
It's just awful...
The Midnight Man (2016)
I Felt Like I Was Watching Scooby Doo
A good idea in theory but terrible acting, poorly writing and a total waste of the film's two great actors...Lin Shaye and Robert Englund made any point the film had completely invalid. Other pointless, meaningless characters joined the fray, the plot shot around the place like a stray firework contradicting itself every ten minutes like the writer had ADHD and by the end I couldn't have cared less who survived and who didn't. Really awful and was just waiting for someone to yell, "Zoiks, let's get out of here Scoob"...and I was in my own house!
