who cares?
I decided to see this movie because I generally like Tim Robbins, and because I generally like movies set in dystopian futures. So, win/win situation, right? Wrong. The problem here is not that it's a BAD movie (it is interesting & I particularly liked the use of language - you'll hear English peppered with words from at least 5 different languages), but that I didn't CARE what happened to the main characters. I found myself more interested in the peripheral characters than in Tim Robbins' William or Samantha Morton's Maria. Why is this? The acting was good overall, but I just couldn't believe that these characters would do what they did, even in this weird future setting. Why spend so much money making a cool future world, so much time creating an interesting premise, so much energy selecting these really good actors, and then not bother to create a story worth telling?
