Omen meets What We Do in the Shadows
30 December 2020
You're an ordinary step dad, who maybe just married a little out of your league, in an ordinary suburb and your stepchild turns out to be the antichrist. What do you do? It's a comedy, mostly , and I enjoyed it. It's paced well, it's funny, I liked the characters. There were no "let's hide behind the chainsaws" moments. The contrast of ordinary life with an extraordinary situation is well done.

The Rook (2019)

I enjoyed it

I hadn't even heard of the book and I enjoyed the TV series. It's got some flaws, mainly the main character isn't very compelling. However, there weren't many moments where I was mad at the writing, which is often so lazy. The plot kept me hooked. I watched it straight through.

Low budget but good idea

Not your typical super low budget movie. You have to pay attention. It's a novel plot that I mostly couldn't predict. I liked it. My friend didn't like having to think. I'm going to give it a 7 for the novel plot, which is tough to find

Better than expected
16 July 2020
How many of these movies have been made? Young person. Quirky old person. Heartwarming plot. Sad ending. Pretty formulaic. I was not expecting it to be good but I like Rourke so I gave it a chance. Absolutely nothing original about it. It's not Harold and Maude, but I enjoyed it. All 4 of the main actors were good as were their characters. 8 might be a little high but I'm going with it

Altered Carbon (2018–2020)

9 for season 1, skip season 2
1 March 2020
Loved season 1. The premise for season 2 is actually pretty good if you skip ahead to see what it is. But the acting is unbearable, as is the overly emotional dialog. The plot is boring and I no longer care about any of the characters even the ones I liked in the first series. I watched the first 3 episodes, and couldn't take more, so I skipped to the penultimate episode and fast forwarded through it to get the pieces I wanted. I think the whole season might be interesting if it was edited down to 2 episodes. Even then the acting is really bad but there would be less of it.

But I like the premise so maybe I'll read the books.

Slasher (2016–2023)

Season 2 is actually good
11 February 2020
I think what happened with season 1 is it started off badly during filming (the lead actor mainly) and they tried to fix it and ran out of time and money, so they just decided to Disaster Artist it. And they succeeded. It's the worst series I've ever seen, though I skipped a few episodes ahead to the finale. And, wow, that finale is an epic disaster. Conversation worthy. "Have you seen Slasher? Mother of God that finale was bad! "

To my surprise there was a season 2 and to my greater surprise it got good reviews, so finally I watched it. And, you know what? It is good. The minimum bar for horror is whether I start rooting for the villain to finish everyone off because I hate them. "I could run away or fight but instead I'll just stand here and scream." Please, die already. The villain deserves a Darwin Award, really. So, if I start cheering the villain it's bad, if I don't it's probably a thumbs up.

Anyway, this one kept me interested all the way through and I didn't grow to hate the characters (though they aren't exactly likeable either, but because they are complex and well written and then well acted), the women aren't just there to be frightened and die, and I even felt some empathy for the villain at the end.

I recommend (season 2, not season 1)

Basically an audio book
15 January 2020
Not great cinema, but an above average audio book with video and illustrations.

I'd rather read the book or listen to the audio book in my car. Not a good use of TV time for me.

Not very interesting
8 January 2020
It does make me want to convert my basement into a movie studio, too. I have some old cell phones lying around I could use as cameras. Raid my parents garage for props.

The acting and dialog are painful and the plot is... a plot, I guess.

I tend to enjoy the old crappy movies but I couldn't watch this for long so maybe it gets better
