Lazzaro felice (2018)
Profound - Poetic - Heart-wrenching
There are some films that change you forever, Happy As Lazzaro is one of them. It is a painfully beautiful film with the socioeconomic insight of Leviathan, the poetic heart of The Shape Of Water and the emotional punch of The Diving Bell & the Butterfly. I saw it last night and it's resonance is still reverberating through my heart and mind. It is so intelligently drawn, steeped in allegory and metaphor that are both an indictment of our worst selves and a reminder of the infinite possibility of our choice to be good, to exercise positive unconditional regard for others. Thank you to Alice Rohrwacher and Tempesta Film for creating this masterpiece. Deeply affecting & not to be missed.
The Journey (2014)
Beautiful, moving and cathartic
The Journey touches your heart through a process of gentle osmosis. It follows 3 men who's lives are interconnected through their experience of loss. Shot in Greece it is visually stunning and beautifully acted it transports you to a place where personal fantasy, beliefs and reality collide. What emerges is a sensitive, intelligent story of grief, loss and love. Having lost the most important person in my life it was deeply resonant and cathartic. In a part of the world where we don't talk about grief it was a refreshing and brave story that allows us to honour our own loss. I thoroughly recommend it. Looking forward to seeing more from Lance Neilsen
