Very uplifting
9 April 2020
Uplifting story about the holocaust??? YES! This is a must watch. I've know about the story of Zakynthos in WWII for years (as well as Archbishop Damaskinos of Athens). But to watch the story being told by someone who was there brings a different perspective and makes it real.

Worth every minute.

The Expanse (2015–2022)

Best Sci-Fi since Babylon 5
6 July 2017
This show makes other Sci-Fi shows seem bad. I can't get into Dark Matter, which otherwise would be a decent show, but after watching the Expanse, it pales in comparison.

I don't have issues with the accents. I like that the Belters have unique accents. The accent sounds a bit Afrikaans but it is distinctly unique. I think it adds to the realism. Of course after years apart, people will have new accents.

This is the only show I watch where I can't be doing anything but watching the show. I often multitask while watching programs (I am actually watching an episode of Dark Matter while I type this), but The Expanse has too much going on. I must devote all of my attention to it.

I always had Babylon 5 (well the first 4 years at least) up on a pedestal as my favorite Sci-Fi of all time. The Expanse isn't there yet, but it is getting close.

My only complaint is why aren't Earthers so much stronger than Martians and Belters. I understand that Martian Marines train in 1G, but Earth Marines live, breathe and sleep in 1G. Earthers should be far, far, stronger than any Belter. (Am I wrong in my thinking here?)

It sucks having to wait 9 months for season 3.

Elysium (I) (2013)

Decent movie. Could have been more.
20 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
For the most part I enjoyed this movie. It could have been more. I would have liked to have a little more background on Elysium itself. It probably could have used another 15 mins in length to address some of the holes in why things are like they are and how things work.

What I truly despise though, is the FRIGGIN shaky cam fight sequences. Why? What is it with Damon and action movies filmed in Puke-O-Vision? (Bourne movies)I had to focus my eyes away from the screen for some of the fight sequences. This is so aggravating.

SPOILER BELOW:

I was a bit surprised with how they went with the daughter. I thought for certain that she was going to be Max's daughter. So kudos for not going down that path.

The Lost Tales should have stayed lost.
4 August 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Let me start just like many others, and state that I am a huge B5 fan. B5 wasn't only my favorite sci-fi series on TV but it was my favorite TV series ever. I was so looking forward to this movie. The trailer made me think that this was supposed to be a fast action packed movie. Boy was I wrong. The movie had me bored to tears. Basically nothing happens. IMO this was worse than any single episode of B5...(including TKO) I don't know what the budget was, but it appeared to be quite low. There were only really 5 actors in this movie:

Lochley (My least favorite character from B5), Fr. Cassidy, Sheridan, Prince Vintari, Galen (never liked the storyline that he can foretell the future)

The first story was a lost cause. Come on, a guy possessed by a demon? This one was sooooooooo slow. It seemed to just drag on even though it was only about 30 mins.

The second story had potential, but it too just failed to materialize. It might be a good start towards future stories of an ever more expansionist Centauri Republic. Going after Earth because Earth might be the only roadblock to the Centauris return to their old glory is a little weak in my mind. What about the Minbari? Yes, typically they don't get involved but they are far more powerful than EA (I guess it's possible that this changes in 30 years). The CGI effects of the possible Earth/Centauri war looked fantastic though. But that was about it.

I can't even begin to explain how much I loved the series and movies. I do my part to help the franchise. (I bought this movie even though I hated it after renting it from Netflix) JMS really let me down on this one. Hopefully future projects will include:

Londo Mollari (My favorite character until he met Morden), Garibaldi, Vir Cotto, Delenn
