Renfield (2023)
8/10
Better than it had any right to be.

Turns out, the age of the hoaky, campy, but undeniably charming universal monster B-movie isn't over after all. Renfield is a smartly written Horror Comedy that, unlike many modern blockbusters, actually sets up plot points and twists it wants to pay off later. I also found myself laughing out loud in the theatre more than once. Don't get me wrong, the movie has it's faults. The CGI gore in the film looks god-awful, and there are some cliché characters here and there, but given the nature of the film, which almost plays into its B-movie status, I almost found these shortcomings charming rather than aggravating.

While I wouldn't consider this movie anything groundbreaking, It sets out to do simple, well, and not enough movies in the modern age do that.

I will definitely be watching this film again soon.
