Not a single positive thing can be said about this movie
25 January 2018
I never expected this movie to be good but, I still expected this movie to be at least somewhat entertaining on a superficial level. But somehow this movie still managed to disappoint me despite having extremely low expectations for this film. The art style is uninspired, the animation is cheap and lazy, the voice acting is hilariously bad and the story is not engaging in the slightest. The very first action scene in the movie featuring Batman, was awfully directed and felt as if it was directed by an amateur. However, I know this isn't the case as this movie was directed by Sam Liu, a veteran of DC animation. So, I can only chalk the poor quality of this movie up to the creative team not really giving a shit. This movie was obviously rushed and made on the cheap so that DC can meet their quota of releasing at least 1 DC animated movie every year. I really don't understand why DC is doing this. I would understand if this was a mainstream live-action theatrical release made to appeal to casual audiences, as those usually make a lot of money regardless of quality( save maybe for Justice League), but the DC animated movies are made specifically for adult comic book fans. DC animated movies were successful in the past because of their quality, but the quality just isn't there anymore, which is why interest in these movies have dipped. Kids can't watch this movie either, as it is rated R. However, the art style gives the impression that this movie is for kids, which it is definitely not. The art style will also turn some adult viewers off. So , who exactly is this movie for? It does not appeal to anyone. It's like DC is going out of its way to sabotage their own animation department. DC has another animated movie coming out this year featuring the suicide squad, and the trailer made me want to gorge my eyes out. it also has the same ugly, kid friendly art style, despite being rated R. I don't understand why DC is rushing these films out, despite no one going out in droves to see them. It seems that DC forgot that quality is what people want, not quantity. Ultimately, I will have to give this movie a 1/10 as there is not a single good thing that I can say about this movie, even if I tried really hard. If DC doesn't give a shit, why should I?
