Watcher (2022)
A little too repetitive
I watched this during sundance. I like slow burns, especially in the horror/thriller genre, but I thought this filmed dragged on a bit too slow. Perhaps would have been a better short film. Scenes just became a too repetitive and predictable.
Surge (2020)
Unbearable Shaky Cam
I saw this film at Sundance 2020. Lead gave us a thrilling performance. However, camera being handheld most of the time and especially in the more active scenes lead to an unwatchable shaky cam whenever the main character started running. Almost no wide shots the whole movie, and everything was close up. All the time people would be doing things with their hands or something like that but you couldn't even see it and that was so annoying. I would literally stop watching during the shaky cam parts because I was getting literally nothing from it and I was scared I would get a headache. If the movie had a bit more polish or maturity with the cinematography perhaps it would have been eons more enjoyable.
Koko-di koko-da (2019)
Great performances, but frustrating overall
Koko-di Kiki-da had great performances, but it was just absolutely frustrating to watch. I could hear fellow members of the audience at Sundance audibally sighing after maybe the third or fourth ground hog day. The music box nursery rhyme was a cool premise for a ground hog day scenario, but they shouldnt have played out each scenario in full each time it happened. The first couple times were hardly different enough to warrant all that screen time. If the point was to frustrate us with paranoia as much as the characters were in the moment then he sure succeeded in that. I loved the first portion of the film and the last couple escapes were fun to watch but I would never put myself through this whole movie again.
