One of the greatest cult classics of all-time.
Angel, a 15 year old straight-A high school student, you might call a "goody-goody" by day - A street walking prostitute by night, in order to pay the bills and be able to continue attending school and keep up her appearance as a normal teenage girl without anyone finding out that she's having to make it on her own, without parents.
Until one night when some of her classmates discover her secret life.
I grew up with this movie, having watched it several dozen times in the early years of Showtime, my first experience with cable/movie channels. My parents subscribed to it in 1978. Every kid in the neighborhood and in school had HBO or the Movie Channel, we were the only household with boring Showtime, which I was incessantly teased for, but on occasion there would be a good movie, like Angel. We also had a Beta VCR instead of VHS and Intellivision instead of Atari.
Angel was my favorite movie growing up and I still consider it one of my all-time favorite classics. It's the ultimate male fantasy story the way Pretty Woman is for the white collar man.
For a "B"-ish type film it's very well made and written. The story is surprisingly good and the characters are all very well created, including a 2-gunned street cowboy, a colorful transvestite and so many other great characters in school and on the street.
There are many aspects to the story, including a serial killer who targets street hookers, perverted school faculty and a shy kid in school who continually asks her out.
Angel is a must-see 80's gem that you'll be glad you discovered. To be watched again and again.
