Wild at Heart (2006)
Six Excellent Seasons
I've just finished watching this series on Acorn and loved it. When I go to th end of season 5 I was lamenting that there were only 2 seasons to go. I thought it went down a notch and really don't know what happened in Season 7? It was almost like there were new writers? There was a lot of very corny stuff in there. Danny seemed angry for most of the time and was always putting Dup down. By the end of the season I was relieved that there was only one more episode - a single episode in season 8 to tie is all together. While I had a tear in my eye when it finished (because of the ending), Danny was so angry at Dup for virtually all of that episode too. I will cherish the time I spent watching the show, I will miss it a lot, although I just wonder what went wrong with the direction after season 6 finished.
P.S. I Love You (2007)
This is insulting to those of us who have lost a spouse
My girlfriend and I both lost our respective spouses to cancer and were so insulted by this movie we both did something we haven't done before - we walked out.
When one loses a spouse s/he is haunted by the memory of the lost, loved one to the point that it is so difficult to move past square one for the first while.
As we do put the past behind the WORST thing that could happen is if the loved one pulled this stunt to keep reminding you of him and thus, not allowing you to move on - until his / her predetermined time. It would just be so cruel. - throwing him/her in your face even though there was no possibility of seeing the other person again.
The people involved in this movie obviously have no idea of the anguish that's involved. Even the most minor of memories are so painful - let alone dealing with letters from the grave.
If you've lost someone - or have any real understanding for those who have, then avoid this crap.
The Descent (2005)
What a BAD Movie!!!
I'm still stunned by all the positive comments I read about this movie. I don't normally watch horror movies, but I read the reviews and saw the previews and thought, "This is definitely a huge cut above the rest". Being a collector of DVDs, I actually bought the film. If I can't find anyone to 'give' it to, it's going in the garbage. The introduction, or pre-horror, part of the movie was really drawn out and, quite frankly, one that didn't really draw me or my partner, into the movie. I actually thought the premise for the movie was good, but poorly executed. The tension build up was quite good although when it got to the d-r-a-w-n out horror part, I'd lost any 'caring' for the characters and couldn't wait until the end. I did watch it until the end and thought the finish was soooo poor, a real representation of the entire movie.
Rumor Has It... (2005)
A Graduate Follow-Up - NOT!
I couldn't wait to see a follow-up to The Graduate. When I was young I actually paid to see it at the theater nine times. I'd always wanted someone to do something with "What happened next?". Well, I'd waited forty years and still can't believe what I just watched this evening. Kevin Costner portrayal of (supposedly) the Benjamin Braddock character was laughable. I kept thinking that the writer of this movie had never seen the original Graduate. Ben was NOT a smooth Casanova-type guy. He was not the smooth winner-type that Costner portrayed. The Katherine Ross character in the original did NOT leave her fiancée at the alter to run off with Benjamin for a week or so. The fiancée was a pompous jerk - we all hoped she would leave him and go off with Benjamin. Anyone who has any idea of the characters in the original knows that the father portrayed in Rumor Has It was as far removed from the fiancée in the original as Kevin Coaster was with his portrayal of Benjamin. Mark Ruffalo has been in a few good movies of late and was totally wasted in this one. I wonder why Shirley MacLain would associate herself with this movie. I should mention here that the person I watched the movie had very little memory of the Graduate. She just agreed with my '2' rating on face value. (the story line between Costner and Aniston is totally absurd)
