Doctor Who: Legend of the Sea Devils (2022)
Absolutely Abysmal
It felt like I was watching the 2nd part of a 2-parter without watching the 1st part. We haven't had the sea devils since the classic era and instead of building them up and developing a story it was just all thrown at us within the space of about 5/10 minutes?! The music was dreadful, the characters forgettable, the dialogue cringeworthy, the story rushed, the humor unamusing, the single positive is that this wretched era has only 1 more episode left in it for us all to endure before Russell T Davies comes in and attempts to piece together this shattered show, a task he could go about completing in a far worse way than setting his story after Twice Upon a Time.
Doctor Who: Spyfall: Part One (2020)
Above average Chibnall episode but had a lot more to offer
There were some really good ideas thrown into this episode but not enough time to flesh them out due to the decision to shoehorn both the VOR story and the Master story into the same 60 minute period. The episode should have solely been about one or the other in my opinion.
We were left with just 1 clue that "O" was the Master, they could have filled the episode up with clues and then revealed him in the second part instead of squeezing it all in, leaving it all to feel a lot less forced.
Doctor Who: The Timeless Children (2020)
60 years killed in 60 minutes
I'm in disbelief. How can you ruin the last 60 years? The only reason this episode currently is rated 5.6 overall is because of the deluded fans that give every episode a 10.
This is what happens when incompetent writers try to tamper with the story. They clearly do not understand doctor who or what it means to the fans.
You can't just spontaneously make things up, they have to make sense, or at least enough sense for it to be written into the story. This star wars like, fanfiction, awful excuse for a finale may just have put the final nail in the coffin.
If the show has any hope of ever recovering somewhat it must drastically remove the damage of this episode. But what can you do? Re-writing the episode of even the series is humiliating for everyonre involved in its production. Just disregarding it in the writing of the next episode is equally as humiliating. It might have to be a case of a hiatus. Leave it for a few years and let the dust settle. Start again with a new writer and actors. Develoo a story and the characters and stick with it instead of backtracking midway through. Rebuild from the ground up
Doctor Who: Fugitive of the Judoon (2020)
Engaging but quite confusing at times
This is probably the best episode since The Woman Who Fell To Earth however it should definitely be taken in account when making such a statement that all the episodes since then have been average at the best of times.
I didn't find this one a chore to watch, there was less empty conversations between characters and crappy jokes that have featured regularly in recent episodes and more actual stuff happening.
The story itself I don't have an issue with, I have an issue with how it just comes out of no where though. We're focused on this lady who we've never seen before, and 30/40 mins later she turns out that she's a version of the doctor. This is a pretty massive thing the producers have thrown in here, and they've crammed it all into one episode. You think back to previous stories like River Song and Bad Wolf, these were so good because they were gradually developed over time. Why did they just launch this on us in the space of 30/40 mins of television?
I also can't help but be disappointed with how we didn't get a Doctor and Captain Jack reuniting scene. Now they did leave this in a place where we could get one further down the line so it's not so bad, but we have waited 10 years to see Captain Jack again, so I don't really understand why they felt the need to keep us waiting longer. But time will tell with that one.
On Captain Jack's part in the episode. Thought he was funny and amusing, John Barrowman's ability to play him clearly hasn't gone away and the his delivery of every line was excellent. But his role from a writing/storyline point of view is one I struggle to get my head around. There's the doctor dealing with judoon in Gloucester meanwhile Captain Jack is trying to evade those who he's just stolen the ship from? It doesn't tie in with the episode at all and I feel he would have been better included in the main story of the episode.
Was nice to see the judoon back as well, though would have been nice to see more of the town's reaction to their arrival. All we saw was an old lady rebel against them and then get killed. There was also the coffee shop guy who looked like he might have something to do with this story as he holds a whole dossier on Ruth's partner, before the judoon decide to smash some glasses when collecting the dossier (for no reason what so ever) and then killing him because he pushed one of them in reaction? Was a very weird bit of writing and I question the need for that scene in general.
Overall, it certainly wasn't bad, there were some engaging bits in there and I at no point wanted to start fast forwarding or stop watching. But some odd bits of writing and the decision to launch a massive plot all in one episode brings it down a few points for me.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
It's not that bad
I can understand the frustration of people watching this and realising that it's just a remake of the original film. However, I personally think giving this film 1s and 2s out of 10 is ridiculous. It really isn't that bad. There are some good battles in there that are hard to take your eyes off, they supplemented the new characters well with some of the old ones and did touch on the old films very nicely I thought
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
I've seen it twice
I've watched this film twice and I cannot understand why it's rated the worse out of the 3 new ones. I just don't really see anything wrong with it. It ties the trilogy together, there are some nice touches to previous films. Definitely an improvement on the previous film and allows you to now go back and watch them all over
