Malignant (2021)
Good until it wasn't
It was good and kept you on the edge of your seat until the end. The last five minutes got cheesy with the lines and then we barley got an ending.
I did enjoy the creative cinematography and the plot was unique for most of the movie.
But there are too many unanswered questions
----
There is no way they are going off as happy sisters after all the carnage her and her tumor caused.
Why did they not remove his face an eye???
Did the cop survive??
And then the mixing was weird
Why were the tape volumes so low?
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
A Netflix Horror with twists
If you enjoyed The Babysitter you'll enjoy this. It has fun characters, 90's throwbacks (some not factual for the year but we can let that slide), and an ending that makes you want to watch the next one in a cleverly planned trilogy.
------- Spoilers (kind of) --------
Everyone complaining that it wasn't original, it's supposed to be reminiscent of the old slasher films with a witchy twist so obviously it's not going to be 100% new. It brings familiar slasher killers (skeleton mask, ax murderer, pscyho girl friend) stereotypes and twists them into one story.
Very excited to see the next two!
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
They make you really think about the "Based on True Events"
With everything that has come before this one in the conjuring universe, it is easy to brush off the "based on true events" aspect. With all the jump scares, gore, loud noises etc. It is easy to forget they were but this one made you think. With a lot less purely paranormal and a lot more evil people doing evil things it was scarrier than the last few installments. Nothing will top the scares that came from the first 2 conjurings and Annabelle but this is definitely a close 4th.
Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel (2009)
If you enjoyed Hot Fuzz, Shawn of the Dead or The World's End you'll enjoy this
It honestly seems like it was written for Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.
Enjoyable watch!
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
"It's not a ghost story, it's a love story"
This was definitely more of a thriller mystery but it has enough scares to be called horror as well. People forget that you don't need jump scares and gore all the time for something to be considered scary or horror. If you are paying attention, really really close attention, you can have a lot of the puzzle pieced together by the 5th or 6th episode but you will never see how it all fits together till the 8th episode.
It was a fantastic story, lots of twists, a few tragic turns, fun characters, and a lot of heart in an old old house.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a show with a story and not just cheap scares
The Haunting of Bly Manor: The Romance of Certain Old Clothes (2020)
Ties it all together!!! The peak of the season
This is the episode where you go "Oh!"
You finally learn the origin of the lady in the lake, the muddy footprint, the "imaginary" friend, and all the other ghostly in and outs of ably Manor. They did a marvelous job of almost a movie inside a show and it makes the doomed Bly Manor feel even more doomed than before.
It was well thought out and so woven into everything else we've seen that you can't help but feel that this is a real history somewhere in the world
Countdown (2019)
Fun "horror" movie
Fun movie with some nice jump scares. Some great red herrings to keep you kind guessing where the movie will go and how it will end. A fun horror movie with a fun cast
An American Aristocrat's Guide to Great Estates (2020)
A surprise gem on the Smithsonian Channel
A rare view of the lives of Aristocrats still living in castles and grand estates from a small town American who was swept into the life. It's an amazing fun way to see the life she was pulled into through her excited and fascinated eyes! She seems genuine about her interest and excitement as she learns about how these families live. Only 8 episodes and I want more!! Ignore the negative reviews, they seemed to be people looking for a different type of show. This is a fun upbeat show that is easy to fall into binging. Love this show and I cannot wait for more.
Midsommar (2019)
Great Cinematography, Terrible Movie
The camera work, cinematography, scenery, costumes, & special effects were fantastic.
The movie was terrible. The plot was drawn out, the only likable character became barely likable at the end. The rest of group you couldn't wait to die off because they were so rude and obnoxious in the first place. The fact that they all willingly stayed after the first "ceremony" made them even more unlikable.
I appreciate art and the more subtle horror/thriller films but this one had no surprises, no mystery. Anyone that has seen even half a dozen horror movies could figure out this whole movie as they go and probably even more if they watched the trailer.
The lead actress did a great jon with what she was given!
Doctor Sleep (2019)
If you read the books you'll like the movie
Like every other Stephen King movie that exists, the movie lacks a lot of the detail and character backstory that the books offer. If you've read the book, you'll love the movie because you know the backstory and depth of each character and why they are the way that they are. If you didn't read the book, go read it.
The movie did an excellent job bringing the book to life and wrapping a book up as best as it could. It was scary and nostalgic for all those who love The Shining.
Level 16 (2018)
Not your typical Girls' School Horror
If you're looking for cheap thrills and jump scares, this isn't the movie for you. If you are looking for a good horror that keeps you on the edge of your seat, makes your skin crawl, and keeps you asking questions till the very end then you're in the right place!!
People say it's a rehash of a common theme but it's made something new out of something overdone. There's no way to guess every twist and turn coming from these girls and their care takers.
If you like horror that makes you think and question every characters motive. This is the movie for you!!
Mr. Right (2015)
You will or you won't
If you like Anna Kendrick you'll like this movie. If you don't, you won't.
2012 (2009)
Big fan of Natural Disaster Movies, Not a Big Fan of this one
I love a good natural disaster movie, or really any natural disaster movie really, but not this one. So many of the disaster scenes were just to show off their CGI effects. The plane flying too low, the Hawaii on fire etc.
Too many overly dramatic scenes and not enough character substance
SpongeBob SquarePants: SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout (2019)
The best.
They couldn't have done a better episode to celebrate Spongebob's 20th Birthday!!
Having the voice actors participate the way they did was amazing! I could watch an entire episode like that.
Terrifier (2016)
Gory and no Story
Gone are the days of Serial killers having a backstory. And can we stop with the indestructible serial killers?? That first stab and head beating he should have been dead.
There was just too much gore and not enough story to save this movie.
I give it three stars purely for the clown because he was spectacular, scary, creepy & funny. He was the only good part of this movie
Cold Ground (2017)
Waste of time.
Always think reviews are too critical but this movie honestly sucked. The first half is promising the middle when people start dying and getting picked off it okay but then it literally just goes downhill from there. And don't get me started on the ending.
Jeruzalem (2015)
Good Idea. Bad Characters.
The only reason I give this movie two stars instead of one is because the directors and writers had a good plot and good settings throughout the movie. The movie started out great and the concept was fantastic.
The main character was terrible! She was an annoying character from the start when she chased the boy down the alley, fell down the stairs and just sat there whining. I had no sympathy for her the entire movie, especially when she insisted everyone stop heading to safety so she could rescue a guy she had just met. She is the idiot character that is supposed to die at the beginning of a horror film and instead they decided to make her the main character. If they had made her a smarter, savvier girl then this movie would have been fantastic.
Warning: After the monsters show, all you can here is her whining and crying.
