Our Race (2005)
An emotional ride with a beautiful message.
"Our Race" is a poignantly beautiful film. It depicts the bravery and comradery among a group of breast cancer survivors. Their 'race' involves moving forward as swiftly and gracefully as possible on the river in an attempt to overcome their opponents, and, on a much deeper level, to move as quickly and smoothly as possible toward a cure for breast cancer. Ms. Devanney managed to bring us along on their journey on both levels. She provides the audience with the rationale behind this sport for breast cancer survivors and, while there are many touching moments, they are balanced with excitement and humor. We are introduced to these women as fledgling paddlers, and follow them as they develop into both a team of seasoned competitors and a sisterhood bonded by their common life experiences.
