In the film young student finds the prototypes of the world literary classic "The Compromise" still living in Tallinn, real people whose real names were used by the famous Russian writer in exile Sergey Dovlatov in his famous novel "The Compromise" written in New York in 80-s. Dovlatov died in New York in 1990.
The story "The Compromise" by the Russian literary classic Sergey Dovlatov was published during the writer's period of emigration in the USA and describes the time he himself called "internal emigration" - the years he spent as a journalist in Tallinn (1972-1976). In the documentary Intimate Town, the prototypes of the work, the writer's former colleagues and friends, who comment on what was written, are believed. The film also opens up the background of the era in a wider way, which helps to decipher not only the fate of Sergei Dovlatov, but the essence of the entire Soviet era.
